Villa Roma Restaurant

Ever wondered where to enjoy Italian cuisine beside Nîmes’ iconic Arena? Villa Roma, nestled on boulevard des Arènes, offers an experience that effortlessly blends location, flavour, and friendly service.

A Spectacular Location

I stumbled upon Villa Roma while strolling around the old town of Nîmes, right near the iconic Roman Arena. You can’t miss it — the restaurant sits just steps away from the amphitheatre, with a terrace that quite literally opens up onto the monument. As someone who values both food and setting, I was instantly drawn in.

Cuisine That Delivers

I wasn’t expecting such authenticity, to be honest. I’ve eaten in many so-called “Italian” places that disappoint, but Villa Roma stayed true to the classics — and elevated them.

I started with a pizza diavola, which came out with that perfect wood-fired crust: slightly charred, chewy inside, crispy at the edge. The mozzarella was real, the spicy salami generous, and the tomato sauce had that slight acidity and depth you only get when it’s made right.

I also ordered a salmon steak, which was beautifully cooked — crisped on the outside, still juicy inside — and served with a generous portion of sautéed vegetables, fresh, lightly seasoned, and still vibrant. It was exactly the kind of dish you want when you’re craving something clean but satisfying.

My partner first tried the tagliatelle alla carbonara, creamy and rich without being heavy. But the real standout was her second dish — ravioli with a delicate pink sauce. The filling was silky, the sauce velvety and infused with just the right touch of herbs. Every bite was indulgent, yet balanced.

Warm, Professional Service

Service was another pleasant surprise. Our server greeted us warmly, switched to English with ease when she heard my accent, and paced the meal just right. Despite the restaurant being nearly full, everything felt smooth and efficient, with a smile.

Well-Priced in a Competitive Market

Given the prime location — you’re literally dining across from a 2,000-year-old monument — I expected prices to be on the steep side. But Villa Roma was fair. Most mains are in the €15–20 range, and the portions are more than generous.
It’s also family-friendly, with plenty of space outside and a relaxed vibe, even on busy evenings.

Practical Details

You’ll find Villa Roma at 8 Boulevard des Arènes 30000 Nîmes, right on the corner of the plaza. It’s an ideal spot for lunch after exploring the Arena of Nîmes, or a sunset dinner after a day in town.
They open for both lunch and dinner, but I recommend booking if you’re coming on weekends — the terrace fills up fast. Website: https://villa-roma.fr/

☀️ Tip: Come just before sunset to catch the golden light over the arena while sipping a chilled glass of rosé.

Final Verdict

Would I go back? Absolutely. Villa Roma combines location, food, and service into a satisfying experience that doesn’t feel overpriced or overhyped. If you’re planning your itinerary and wondering where to eat in Nîmes, this is a spot I’d happily return to — and recommend without hesitation.
